Twins walk off Monarchs 9-8

Derby Twins took Sunday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 9-8 walk-off victory over Hutchinson Monarchs. Derby Twins were down 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Caden Richards singled, scoring two runs.

 

Derby Twins collected nine hits and Hutchinson Monarchs had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

 

Derby Twins got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Griffin Cooley singled, scoring two runs, and Caden Richards grounded out, scoring one run.

 

Hutchinson Monarchs tied the game up in the top of the fourth thanks to two singles. Hutchinson Monarchs tied the game at three on a single by Omare Cross.

 

A double by Jake Knox gave Hutchinson Monarchs the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fifth.

 

Derby Twins captured the lead, 9-8, in the bottom of the ninth when Matt Hamond doubled, scoring one run, and Caden Richards singled, scoring two runs.

 

Ryan Koob earned the win for Derby Twins. The righty gave up zero hits and one run over one inning, striking out two and walking three. Russell Copous took the loss for Hutchinson Monarchs. The reliever went one inning, giving up three runs on three hits, striking out three and walking two. Kai Fitak began the game for Derby Twins. The hurler allowed seven hits and three runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Pryce Bender opened the game for Hutchinson Monarchs. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three. Peyton Walters tossed two innings of scoreless ball for Derby Twins in relief. The righty allowed one hit, striking out one and walking two.

 

Derby Twins accumulated nine hits in the game. Dylan Broadway and Caden Richards each collected two hits for Derby Twins. Caden Richards led Derby Twins with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Derby Twins had patience at the plate, amassing 10 walks for the game. Kade Sheldon, Cooper Scott, Caden Richards, and Tysaac Noland led the team with two free passes each. Caden Richards stole two bases. Derby Twins ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Derby Twins turned one double play in the game.

 

Hutchinson Monarchs tallied 13 hits in the game. Tyson Vassart, Jake Knox, Caylin Grimes, Jeter Worthley, and Drew Bugner each collected two hits for Hutchinson Monarchs. Jake Knox went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Jackson Legg paced Hutchinson Monarchs with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game.

 

Derby Twins welcome Wellington Heat on Tuesday for their next game.
