Derby sweeps Kingman with 8-4 win

A single by Kyle Reese put Kingman Islanders on the board in the top of the second.

 

Derby Twins jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Kingman Islanders committed an error, and Griffin Cooley walked, each scoring one run.

 

Kingman Islanders took the lead in the top of the third. Luke Clayton singled, scoring two runs, to give Kingman Islanders the edge, 3-2.

 

Derby Twins flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on zero hits to take the lead, 7-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a ground out by Caden Richards that drove in two.

 

Alex Morrison earned the win for Derby Twins. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and one run (zero earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. Riley Kettner stepped on the mound first for Derby Twins. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and three runs over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking four. Cooper Tannahill opened the game for Kingman Islanders. The starter gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking two. Peyton Walters tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Derby Twins in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out four and walking two.

 

Rolen Driskoll and Tyson Owens each collected one hit for Derby Twins. Noah Allison, Rolen Driskoll, Caden Richards, and Griffin Cooley each drove in one run for Derby Twins. Griffin Cooley led Derby Twins with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Cooper Scott stole two bases. Derby Twins turned three double plays in the game.

 

Luke Clayton provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kingman Islanders with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Carter Helm led Kingman Islanders with two hits in four at bats. Kyle Reese led Kingman Islanders with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
