FEDERALS TO GO DORMANT FOR 14-15 SEASON
Date: Sep 15, 2014

Fort Wayne, IN – The Federals have signed 5’9’ 170 lbs forward Brandon Bornkamp for the 2013-2014 season. “I am very thrilled to have the opportunity to play junior hockey for the Feds this upcoming season”, said Bornkamp. “This is my first time playing at the junior level, so I am eager to show what I have to offer. I'm ready to better develop as a hockey player”, he added.
Bornkamp, who is 17, joins the Federals after being cut from the NAHL's Corpus Christi IceRays after their main camp. He is coming off a very successful 2014-2015 season skating for the Fort Wayne U16 AAA team, where he tallied 36 goals, 36 assists and 72 points in 35 games played. He led the team in all those categories.
Prior to that, Bornkamp laced up for the Indiana Jr. Ice in 2012-2013 and the Fort Wayne Komets U14 AA from 2010-2013. Bornkamp tallied 122 goals, 72 assists and 194 points in just 162 games played over those three seasons.
Bornkamp is excited to take the next step in his development with the Feds. “My goal is to play college hockey, preferably at the Division 1 level, in the near future. Until then, there are many ways in which I feel I can improve my game, and I strongly believe that playing in the MnJHL will enable me to do so”.
“It’s always great to sign local players but it’s even better when those local players have as much talent and upside as Brandon has”, said Assistant GM Chris Treft.
Although Bornkamp was born in El Paso, TX he has lived in Fort Wayne for most of his life. Bornkamp attends Carroll High School, where he has had as much success just like his on ice accomplishments. He is the goalie for the Carroll Soccer team all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA which has earned him a spot in the National Honors Society and the National Society for High-School Scholars. “The fact that Brandon is a great student and very respectful, mature young man, was very appealing to us”, said Treft. “When Scott (Fankhouser) took over the helm in Fort Wayne his goal was to get great hockey players who double as great students. Brandon exemplifies that to a tee, which makes the staff beyond thrilled to have him on board”.
The Federals would like to welcome Brandon and his family to the Feds organization and look forward to him wearing a Feds sweater this season.
