NEWPORT, R.I. - Not only will manager Mike Coombs make the trip up to Vermont on Sunday, July 20th, but he will be joined by eight members of the 2025 Newport Gulls roster.
Four Newport Gulls were named starters, including Finbar O'Brien (Gonzaga), who will begin the game on the hill for the Southern Division. O'Brien represents the third-straight year a Gull has been named the starting pitcher of the event following Brad Pruett (2024) and Santhosh Gottam (2023). As of Sunday, July 13th, O'Brien leads the NECBL in punchouts with 34 and is first in ERA among qualified pitchers at 1.04.
Randy Seymour (Michigan State) will get the nod at shortstop, and NECBL home run leader Matt Bolton (Binghamton) will start the game in center field for the Southern Division. The 2025 All-Star Game will be Seymour's second-straight appearance in the midsummer classic. The Gulls' final all-star starter will be Michael Gupton (Memphis), who will hit for O'Brien as the team's designated hitter.
The Gulls have three players who made the reserve list, including starting pitcher Leighton Harris (Kentucky), infielder Colby Wallace (East Carolina), and catcher Dre Lewis (Manhattan). As Southern Division manager, Mike Coombs decided to take one of his own for his coach's pick, bringing fan favorite, Drew DeLucia (Austin Peay), to Upper Valley to round out the bunch.
This year's total is the most representation that Newport has had in the NECBL All-Star Game since 2013, when they sent nine players to the event, also managed by Coombs.
The 2025 NECBL All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, July 20th at Maxfield Sports Complex in White River Junction, Vermont. First pitch is at 5:10 p.m. with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
