2024 GLSCL POST SEASON AWARDS ANNOUNCED

TROY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League is proud to announce its 2024 post season awards.

 

The selection breakdown for the All-GLSCL Post Season Teams is for each position awarding a first and second-team honoree with all other voter getters being named honorable mention.

 

All post season selections and awards are determined by the seven coaching staffs with each team getting one vote.

Gary Henschen Player of the Year

Blake Bowen -  Lima Locos - University of Akron

 

Blake Bowen finished the regular season hitting for a .364 batting average good enough for second on the GLSCL leader board. Bowen was also second in the GLSCL with 29 RBIs with three home runs. His slash line included at a .507 on base percentage and a .509 slugging percentage.

 

Bowen was also the GLSCL Player of the Week for his accomplishments during the fourth week of the season when he reached base 11 times in 19 plates appearances. He hit two of his three home runs during that week driving in six RBIs.

 

Bowen was the starting third baseman for the Blue Team in the GLSCL all-star game. He was one of the standouts on the large stage going 2-for-2 with with an RBI-double and reaches base on two walks.

 

The Wooster, Ohio native redshirted this past spring at the University of the Kentucky. He entered the transfer portal and with his early season success committed to play at the University of Akron.

 

 

Lou Laslo Pitcher of the Year

Matteo Pare - Lima Locos - Pensacola State College

 

Matteo Pare was 3-1 on the season in seven starts for the Locos. Pare won the GLSCL earned run average crown with a league low 1.90 in 33 innings of work. He struck out 19 batters while only allowing six walks on the season.

 

Pare’s best start earned him the GLSCL Pitcher of the Week honors in the fourth week of the season. On June 28, Pare threw six shutout innings giving up just three hits while striking out two batters and not allowing a walk.

 

The LaSalle, Ontario native just finished his freshman season at Pensacola State College. Pare, who was a GLSCL all-star, going 6-2 in the spring for the Pirates with 43 strikeouts and 23 walks in 57.2 innings of work.

 

 

Ron Miller Top Player Prospect

Brooks Wright - Lima Locos - University of Louisiana  

Brooks Wright was an all-star for the GLSCL Blue Team as an incoming freshman to the University of Louisiana. This marks the third straight season a Locos player made his collegiate debut in the GLSCL and was also an all-star.

 

Wright played in 23 games hitting .278 in 79 at bats with 10 RBI’s. He made quite the splash with two hits in each of his first three games with the Locos. Wright went 3-for-4 in a game with two RBIs on June 28 against the Grand Lake Mariners.

 

Wright has late reporting to the Locos as he was helping Baton Rouge Catholic High School win the Louisiana division-one state championship. 

 

 

Tony Lucadella Top Pitcher Prospect

Kyle Kesel - Hamilton Joes - Wright State University

 

Kyle Kesel made eight appearances including four starts for the Joes going 1-0 with a 3.42 ERA. Kesel struck out 25 batters in 22 innings of work allowing just 12 walks. He was an all-star for the Blue Team earning the save after striking out the side in the ninth inning.

 

The Hilliard, Ohio native appeared in 15 games out for the bullpen for Wright State as a freshman this past spring. Kesel worked 16.1 innings striking out 14 batters on the season. His best appearance came in the Horizon League tournament recording three strikeouts in 1.1 innings against Northern Kentucky.

 

 

Joe Carbone GLSCL Manager of the Year

Tyler Thamann - Hamilton Joes

 

Tyler Thaman led the Hamilton Joes to the GLSCL regular season championship with an impressive 26-9 record. The Joes won 10 out of its 11 series including four sweeps. Hamilton enjoyed separate winning streaks of seven and 10 games during the course of the season. 

 

The Joes racked up a total of 12 come-from-behind wins taking the lead after trailing in the seventh inning or later. One of those late innings victories was a sudden win on the road over the Southern Ohio Copperheads on June 30.

 

Thamann just completed his fourth season as head coach of the Joes recently earning his 100th career coaching victory. Thaman is looking for his third GLSCL championship as the skipper of the Joes winning in both 2021 and 2022. Thamann is the only person in GLSCL history to win the championship as both a player and a head coach. He is also the head coach at University of Miami-Hamilton.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
