LIMA LOCOS  vs.  XENIA SCOUTS  -  Postponed 

SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos versus Xenia Scouts double header at Simmons Field was postponed due to field conditions as a result of Friday’s night storms.

 

The two teams will now play a double header on Saturday in Xenia at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex. Another double header will be played in July when the teams meet up again on the schedule.

 

 

FLAG CITY SLUGGERS  7  MUSKEGON CLIPPERS  6  - FINAL/11 Innings 

MARSH FIELD - The Flag City Sluggers now have its first ever winning streak and series victory after winning a 7-6 thriller in 11 innings over the Muskegon Clippers.

 

The game saw a total of three ties and three lead changes before heading into the sudden death portion of the game.

 

The Sluggers went to the plate after the sudden death coin flip in the 11th inning winning with the help of a pair bench players.

 

Charlie Smith (Southwest Tennessee CC) was called in first to pinch run for the ghost runner that was placed on first base beginning the sudden death inning. Smith stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher.

 

Cameron Baker (Lincoln Trail) was brought in to pinch hit becoming the hero with an RBI-single driving in Smith with the winning run.

 

Flag City (2-6) took the first lead of the game scoring twice in the third inning thanks to a two-run double by Harrison Engskov (Arkansas State).

 

The Clippers (1-7) answered by doubling up the Sluggers with four runs in the bottom of the third.

 

Ashton Wong (Loyola Marymount) tied the game with a two-run double. Holden Baker (Presbyterian College) gave the Clippers the lead with an RBI-ground rule double. Baker scored from second base on a single to center field by Joseph Chrapliwy (Purdue Fort Wayne).

 

The Sluggers retook the lead 5-4 in the fifth when Engskov produced an RBI-single followed by a bases clearing two-run triple by Tanner Powell (South Arkansas CC).

 

Baker, who went 4-for-5 at the plate for the Clippers, tied the game once again at 5-5 with an RBI base hit to right field scoring Casey Barnes (Northwestern Ohio).

 

The two teams traded single runs in the sixth inning tying the game 6-6. 

 

The Clippers rallied in the ninth inning but could not find the magic to walk it off for its home fans. Sluggers reliever Leo McEnulty (Purdue Fort Wayne) got out of a jam for the Sluggers stranding two runners on base. 

 

Centerfielder Will Laferty (Marshall University) saved the game with an outfield assist throwing out a Clippers runner at home that would have scored the game winning run.

 

McEnulty pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen keeping Flag City within striking distance. Cooper Ashby (Redlands College) pitched a scoreless tenth inning earning the victory.

 

The Sluggers will attempt to leave Muskegon with a sweep when the two teams wrap up the series on Sunday at Marsh Field with a 5:05pm first pitch.

 

 

MICHIGAN MONARCHS  vs.  HAMILTON JOES  -  DH 

FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes and the Michigan Monarchs split a Saturday night double header with two teams shutting each other out at Foundation Field.

 

The Joes won the first game 5-0 while the Monarchs took the nightcap 1-0.

 

Hamilton starter Michael Bilo (George Mason) pitched a seven-inning complete game facing just three batters over the minimum. Bilo kept the Monarchs bats silent giving up just two hits while striking out four batters tossing a 77-pitch gem.

 

Jordan Malott (Indiana Tech) provided the pop off of his bat going 2-for-3 with a double and solo home run for the Joes.

 

In the nightcap, the Monarchs Manny Gutierrez (Henry Ford CC) lead off the game with a single coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Bren Wilkinson (Cal State Northridge).

 

That was all the offense the Monarchs would need as two Michigan pitchers held Hamilton to just three hits.

 

Owen Elsby (Schoolcraft College) got the start retiring the first nine batters that he faced lasting the first four and 1/3 innings. Once he got into trouble, Matthew Hubbard (University of Akron) came in during the fifth inning putting an end the Joes only scoring threat of the game.

 

The Monarchs win the series improving to 7-2 on the season while the Joes finish the weekend with a 4-5 record.

 

 

SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS  15  GRAND LAKE MARINERS  0  -  FINAL/7 Innings

BOB WREN STADIUM - The Southern Ohio Copperheads bounce back from a home loss on Friday with a convincing 15-0 beat down of the Grand Lake Mariners on Saturday.

 

The first place Copperheads (5-3), who were already leading 5-0, scored a whopping 10 runs in the fifth inning putting the game out of reach. Southern Ohio sent 13 batters to the plate facing three Mariners pitchers.

 

Nic Lembo (High Point) led the way for the Copperheads at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Lembo, playing in just his second game of the season now boasts a .714 (5-for-7) batting average.

 

Ronnie Rowley (Hocking College) was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI’s and two runs scored. Tylan Graves (Southwest Tennessee CC) also Brendan Willadsen (Adrian College) also provided two hits for the Copperheads.

 

Tanner O’Farrell (Ohlone College) and Reon Iwase (Oxnard College) combined for the shutout holding the Mariners offense to just five hits.

 

Jacob Loving (Palomar College) provided two of those five Grand Lake hits out of the leadoff spot in the Mainers batting order.

 

The series moves to Celina for the rubber game as the Mariners will host at Montgomery Field with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05pm.

The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
