XENIA SCOUTS  14  GRAND LAKE MARINERS  3 - FINAL/7 Innings

GRADY’S FIELD - The Xenia Scouts clinched a series victory with a convincing 14-3 mercy rule victory over the visiting Grand Lake Mariners on Wednesday on Grady’s Field at Brown Stadium.

The Mariners had a tough day overall as one of their vans blowing out a tire on the way to the game. Everyone made it to Xenia safely but were late to the venue giving them minimal on-field prep before the game. The game started nearly 30 minutes behind schedule.

The Scouts (3-2) were unaffected by the delay putting up four runs in three different innings. The offensive outburst made it a mercy-rule game ending in seven innings.

Xenia broke a 1-1 tied in the third inning when leadoff hitter Caleb Webster (Tusculum College) manufactured a run. Webster reached on a walk, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Bo Solley’s (Harding University) RBI-single drove in Webster making it a 2-1 game.

That was as close as it would ever get the rest of the night. Solley scored from third base on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and Troy Lynch (University of Minnesota Duluth) scored on a steal of home on a delayed double steal.

The Scouts had balanced scoring attack with three players, Solley, Gus Gandy (Samford University) and Rolan Reyes (Westmont College) accounting for two hits apiece. Soley also scored runs and drove in three RBIs.
