LIMA LOCOS  2  FLAG CITY SLUGGERS  0  - FINAL

MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Lima Locos keep the train on the tracks improving to 6-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory on the road against the Flag City Sluggers.

The Locos remain the only undefeated team in the GLSCL. Its the best start of the season for the Locos since they started the 2011 season with a 6-1 record.

The game was a pitcher’s duel as the game was scoreless through the first seven innings.

Braxton Betancourt (Olney Central) pitched six shutout innings for the Sluggers. He struck out seven batters while scattering two hits allowing on one walk.

Jacob Sams (Central Florida) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Flag City before the Locos got to him in the eighth.

Brecken Menuet (Louisiana Tech) reached on a one-out walk and scored on a triple off the bat of Reese Borho (Abilene Christian). Borho crossed the plate on a single by Matt Rose (South Florida).

That was all the scoring the Locos needed as three Lima pitchers combined for the shutout.

Austin Vargas (Texas A&M transfer) got the start going the first four and 2/3 innings striking out six batters. The Sluggers flirted with success reaching base on two hits and four walks but couldn’t covert that success into run production.

Marion Creech (North Greenville transfer) went three and 1/3 innings out of the bullpen striking out four batters while giving up just two hits. Creech was credited with his first victory of the season.

Brady Fitzpatrick (Ball State transfer) came in for the ninth retiring the side in order including two strikeouts for the save.

Lima puts its winning streak on the line Friday night returning to Simmons Field taking on the Xenia Scouts.

The Sluggers (0-6) look for its elusive first win when they go on the road taking on the Muskegon Clippers.

MICHIGAN MONARCHS  2  MUSKEGON CLIPPERS  1   -  FINAL

HILLSDALE COLLEGE - The Michigan Monarchs got off the mat winning the three-game series against its in-state rival Muskegon Clippers with a 2-1 victory on Thursday.

The Monarchs only needed one hit to secure its fifth victory of the season.

Wyatt Epple (Davenport University) reached on an error leading off the fourth inning. Christian Holmes (Illinois Chicago transfer) hit his first home run of the season giving the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage.

Ashton Wong (Loyola Marymount), who lead the GLSCL in home runs with eight last season, hit a solo home run with one out in the eighth inning. Wong’s second homer of the 2025 cut the Monarchs lead in half 2-1.

Unfortunately for Muskegon (1-5), that is the closest they would come to winning this game. The Clippers offense had plenty of chances as they left 10 runners on base.

The Clippers wasted a nice effort on the mound by started Kendall Brewer (Erskine College). Brewer pitched a complete game in a losing effort giving up just one run and two hits. He was efficient throwing just 88 pitches striking out seven while walking just three batters.

Three Monarchs pitchers held the Clippers bats at bay. Daniel Wilcome (Saginaw Valley State) earned the victory going the first six innings. Sam Beemer (Michigan State) made his long awaited season debut going one and 2/3 innings. Johnny Stavola (Michigan-Dearborn), who already was a win of the season, earned his first save.

The Monarchs put its 5-1 record on the line Friday taking on the defending champion Hamilton Joes at Foundation Field.

The Clippers (1-5) return home hosting the winless Flag City Sluggers at Marsh Field.
