New Coaching Staff for 2022
Date: Aug 11, 2022
The Temple Owls’ season ended in the first round of the 2019 ECHA Playoffs with a 6-2 loss to William Paterson, but a strong second half comeback rounded out another successful season.
The Owls ended the second half of 2018-19 ECHA season with six wins in eight games en route to their fourth-straight ECHA playoff appearance.
Ben Auerbach and Charles Ghiazza were recognized at the ECHA Playoffs as First Team All-Stars and shined to the very end of the 2018-2019 season.
Auerbach, the Owls’ starting goaltender since 2016, ended the year with a .918 save percentage and a 5-3 record in eight ECHA games. He had a .912 overall save percentage. Auerbach missed most of the first half of the season due to injury. His return was key in the Owls’ strong second semester.
Co-captain Charles Ghiazza led the team with 32 goals and 47 points. Ghiazza ended the regular season with 30 goals and added two more in the Owls’ 6-2 loss to William Paterson in the ECHA Playoffs.
Co-captain Ryan Trefz and alternate captain Brendan Ondick finished second on the Owls with 27 points each. Trefz led the team in assists with 22. Ondick, who missed time due to injury, led the Owls with 50 points in the 2017-18 season.
Temple added five players to its roster in the second half of the season. Defenseman Alex Barberini was the most impactful addition, playing 12 games on the Owls blue line that had seen multiple injuries throughout the season.
Freshman Thomas Zembricki, who joined the team as a forward, played a handful of games on defense when the Owls were in need of defensemen.
Three players skated in every game this season: Ghiazza, defenseman Jasen Ferguson, and defenseman Max Hucker.
Temple will lose three players to graduation: Ferguson, goaltender John Callahan, and forward Nick Van Allen, who finished his season at the end of the fall semester.
