Temple University Ice Hockey Club is proud to introduce defenseman Ian Stonefield as the newest commit to the team for the 2021-22 season. Stonefield joins the Owls after COVID-19 changed his overseas plans.

Stonefield spent most of his time at the junior levels in the United States Premier Hockey League joining the Carolina Eagles, now known as the Jr. Hurricanes, in 2016. Stonefield quickly rose through the ranks seeing his first Premier level game in 2017 and becoming a captain and centerpiece to the organization appearing in 94 games including 2 playoff runs. At the Premier level, he tallied 21 points for the Jr Canes.

"I am the guy you want in the back that maybe is not gonna put up all the points but is gonna help you keep your goals against down,"  Stonefield commented about what he can bring.

Ian was not known for his stats but rather his heart and his grittiness on the ice. Stonefield was second in the 2019-2020 season on the team in penalty minutes with 92 and described himself as one to get into the corners and prevent a goal through any means necessary.

Stonefield joins the team adding more depth to the blue line ranks. Kyle Smedley and Alex Barberini have been the core of the defensive unit and Stonefield joins 2020 recruits John Guay and Andrew Williams to make a crowded but very skilled depth chart.

When asked about Coach Carroll, Stonefield replied with "He really really seemed to care about the team and care about the guys he was bringing in so that was a huge thing to bring me to the team I would say."
