New Coaching Staff for 2022
Date: Aug 11, 2022
After 493 days of no Temple Hockey, we can finally confirm a return to the ice rink! We can tell you some of the details of our 25-game schedule for the upcoming season. 16 ECHA Regular Season games and 9 non-ECHA across five months of action.
24 of the 25 games are ACHA Division I games, the matchup against The College of New Jersey is a matchup with their Division II team. This schedule will have 3 more Division I games then the previous season in 2019-2020.
The biggest changes to the schedule are some of the opponents in the non-conference games. 5 of the 9 non-conference games are against College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA) teams all located in the state of Pennsylvania. Pitt finished first, IUP finished third, and Duquesne finished sixth in their last full season in 2019-2020. Drexel has been the juggernaut of the ECHA but has moved into the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) so will be a non-conference game. The other 3 games will be with New Jersey schools of Rutgers twice and TCNJ.
The 16 ECHA games are against many familiar faces Temple has played since joining the ECHA in 2015. The newest edition is George Mason, a DIII team leaping into DI competition this year after some big investments in their team. The biggest change in the ECHA is the loss of Drexel to the ESCHL. Drexel has had the top record in the conference the last 4 seasons including 3 championships in that span. The void of the top dog leaves the often runner-up teams of Villanova and Navy the chance at the top spot. The Owls have the potential to make a big leap in the standings this year with the loss of Drexel and the unknowns of all the other teams after a year off.
All the teams Temple is scheduled to play this year have not played since the Covid-19 pandemic began in March 2020. Again, a positive but also frightening sign about a season full of unknowns.
