After a midseason break that seemed to last forever to UWLX fans, the teams were back in action this past weekend proving once again how exciting women’s lacrosse is. In the game held at Mount Ida College between the Philadelphia Force (4-2) and the Boston Storm (2-4), the Force came out on top, winning by two.

However, the win wasn’t without contestation. The Force took on both four and five goal leads at various points throughout the game. Boston, however, was able to rally back and come within 2 goals to keep themselves in the game.

Led by Carly O’Connell (3 g, 5 a, 1 dc) and Danielle Spencer (3 g, 13 dc), the Force’s offense once again showed just how dynamic they can be. With 6 different goal scorers and going 50% on their shooting, this team is finding their stride at the perfect time in the season.

On defense, Kelsey McGovern had 3 caused turnovers and 1 ground ball while Jessica Volpe added 3 ground balls to give the Force much needed possession. In goal, Zoe Ochoa had 9 saves over her 60 minutes of play. Ochoa came up big for the Force in the final 3 minutes of play picking up a ground ball and saving a 2 point shot attempt by Boston’s Kayla O’Connor.

For the Storm, Elisabeth Jayne led the way with 3 goals on 3 shots and 1 assist. Also adding to the Storm’s offensive effort was Kayla O’Connor, Tanner Guarino, and Charlie Finnigan with two goals each. O’Connor also added 2 assists, 1 ground ball, and 1 draw control. Nicole Poli contributed 2 caused turnovers, both coming in the vital final 4 minutes of the game, and 1 ground ball for the Storm while Jackie Chirco posted 5 saves.

Philadelphia once again found their advantage in draw controls, winning 14 of the 20. However, Boston’s 8 different goal scorers, 3 coming off the bench, will continue to be a major advantage. In the end, the Force was able to hold off the Storm 16-14.

Both teams are back in action next weekend as Boston heads to Connetquot HS in New York to take on the Long Island Sound on 7/20 at 6:00 pm and Philadelphia returns home to West Bradford, PA to take on Baltimore on 7/21 at 6:00 pm.
