Long Island Stays Undefeated Heading into Playoffs

In a battle between two teams yet to win a game this season, the Philadelphia Force (1-2) prevailed 10-5 over the Baltimore Ride (0-3). Led by Molly Hendrick (4g) and an all over dominance in draw controls, Philadelphia was able to overcome the heat as well as their opponent.
An immense offensive effort was put on by the Force who had seven different goal scorers on their ten goal game. Backed by complete dominance on the circle, winning 13 of 16 draw controls, and a strong defense, the Force proved to be a tough opponent.
Anchoring the defense for the Force was Jessica Volpe with 1 draw control, 3 ground balls, and 2 caused turnovers and Lauren Murray with 2 draw controls, 1 ground ball, and 1 caused turnover. Hendrick, who also had one draw control on the night proved to be a great offensive threat for the Force.
Baltimore once again showed how balanced their team is, with a different goal scorer on each of their five goals. Their defense, anchored by Kerry Stoothoff with 9 saves on 19 shots on goal, found their advantage 7-6 in ground balls. Brittany Poist stood out throughout the game collecting 3 ground balls and causing 2 turnovers, while Haley Schweizer also grabbed 1 draw control and 2 ground balls.
Possession was critical in a game that saw 15 turnovers as well as 15 goals. Winning 13 of 16 draw controls proved pivotal to Philadelphia’s success throughout the game and could be a great advantage to them the rest of the season.
Philadelphia stays close to home as they head to Cheyney University to face Boston on Friday, 6/16 at 7 pm.
Baltimore will again play in Bel Air, MD, this time against Long Island on Saturday 6/17 at 4 pm.
