12U Prospects Reach Tournament Final

Date:  Source: Ontario Prospects

In their first tournament of the Spring, Rob Butlers's 12U team battled their way to the finals of the Rochester Invitational before losing to a very strong Brighton Bobcats team. The tournament was held in Pittsford, NY on May 18/19. The boys beat the host Rochester Highlanders in the final game of pool play 15-3 to gain entry in the finals, supported by a combined 5 hitter by Tyler Black and Griffin Hassall. After losing to the Bobcats in their first game of the round robin, the boys battled hard and were locked in a 3-3 tie heading into the 6th inning. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas and couldn't rally for the win, but coach Rob Butler was very impressed with their performance, noting that the boys "are looking very poised and he expects big things from the boys this summer."

Many of the boys had great performances over the weekend, including:

Tyler Black who slugged his way to a .728 average with 2 home runs and 2 triples,
Shaine O'Keefe belted two doubles, two triples and had a .455 average,
Spenser Ross managed 6 clutch hits in his Prospects debut, and
Matt Fabian pitched in with a .546 average

Our boys next play in the 34 team Cincinnati Flames tournament beginning on June 6th.
