Date: Sep 4, 2013
Rob's 12U Ontario Prospects team finished a brilliant season by winning the Western New York Boys of Summer league championship.
After finishing the regular season 12-1-1, the boys began their playoff run with a 4-3 win against Orchard Park. Griffin Hassall walked off on August 5th to cap an exciting first round match up against the 6th place Thunder. Andrew Ha pitched 5 2/3 innings and did not give up an earned run. Rob's squad then faced the 2nd seeded Buffalo Wings on August 6th in the semi-finals and raced out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning and did not look back en route to a 10-1 win. Hassall and Dionte Thain combined for a two-hitter.
The finals on August 7th matched the Prospects up against the 12-4 Titans and once again they did not disappoint. Tyler Black pitched a complete game 7-hitter and James St. Marie and Andrew Ha combined for 5 hits pacing the Prospects to a 7-3 come-from-behind victory.
Rob's team exceeded all expectations this season with an overall record of 36-17-2. Some of the season highlights were:
-Andrew Ha leading the team with 60 innings pitched
-Tyler Black's .614 average (81 hits) and slugging percentage of 1.258, including a record 16 home runs
-24 Double plays turned
-James St Marie's 49 hits and a .389 batting average
-Spenser Ross' 43 runs
-Griffin Hassall's 74 strikeouts
Above all, it was a team effort and a league championship would not have been won without the efforts of all 13 team members. Congratulations to:
Hudson Greenough, Damon Gregoris, Jared Bertrim, Dionte Thain, Matthew Fabian, Spenser Ross, James St. Marie, Tyler Black, Shaine O'Keefe, Griffin Hassall, Alex Kalimeris, Cole Murchison, Andrew Ha and head coach Rob Butler.
