18U Coppens Signs with University of Maine

Date:  Source: Ontario Prospects

Congratulations are long in order to 19-year old Matt Coppens from Ajax, who is one of our longest-tenured veterans of the Prospect program at seven seasons. His first year here was at 12U in 2006-07, alongside players like Ryan Kellogg and Nathan Borges. Over that time here, he has battled his share of adversaries but eventually developed into a monster 6-foot-9 right-handed pitcher with fastball velocity that hits 88-91 MPH.

After staying an additional year at home following high school, he matured into a dominant starting pitcher in the Fergie Jenkins Showcase League and had many impressive outings this summer in 2013 US tournament play. He will be embarking shortly to the University of Maine, located in the town of Orono. The Black Bears are coached by Steve Trimper and compete in Division 1 of the NCAA.

All here with the Ontario Prospects organization wish him the best of luck and the next level of his baseball career!
