12U Prospects Return From Cooperstown

Date:  Source: Ontario Prospects

In their final tournament of the year, both 12U Prospect teams attended the All Star Village in the breathtaking hills of Cooperstown, New York. Both Rob and Alan's team saved their best baseball of the summer for what many describe as the mecca of baseball for 12 year olds. They competed on the best 12U fields in the United States and our players had some great baseball highlights to remember.

In Team Alan's first game of the tournament, the whole club rallied behind pitchers Liam Kelly and Logan Hoover for an impressive 16-3 win. The Prospects would go on to win game 4 of the tournament 15-11 in a come-from-behind effort that saw Matt Tyas hit a 3-run homer and Cal Brazier adding a grand slam! Alan's boys fought and battled to a 2-3-1 round-robin record and placed 18th in the field of 32. All games were highly competitive and had our Prospects playing some of their best baseball of the season. In the first playoff round, they played a very strong squad from Colorado and lost a heartbreaker, 4-1. Matthew Tyas shined for Alan by catching all 42 innings and Liam Kelly pitched brilliantly in the opener and final game of the tournament.

Rob's team captured the heart and imagination of the tournament with back-to-back come from behind wins in the playoff round. After going 3-2-1 in the preliminary round, they started the playoff round by overcoming a 5-1 deficit and went on to win 7-6 in a walk off. Tyler Black homered twice and hit the game winning single. Griffin Hassall came on in relief to throw 6 innings of 2 run ball. In the round of 16, Rob's boys faced the 5th seeded Garden Grove Hustle. Tyler Black struck out 16 and five different Prospects clubbed home runs to propel them to an 8-6 come from behind victory. Rob, Rich and Alan Butler agreed it was the finest Prospect moment. Unfortunately, the magic ended with a disappointing 14-9 loss in the round of 8.

Kudos to Shaine O'Keefe for hammering 5 homers overall and to Nathan Scragg, Cal Brazier, Matthew Tyas, Tyler Black, Spenser Ross, Matthew Fabian, James St. Marie, Griffin Hassall, Jared Bertrim and Cole Murchison for all going deep as well. Congratulations Prospect family!!
