As a new school year gets under way the NPSAA is gearing up for its third season and is ready to showcase why it’s regarded as the top high school basketball association in the country.

Following a successful sophomore campaign which saw growth in the number of teams and events, the organization hopes to continue their vast expansion with a few additions and exciting new ventures.

Giving young men an opportunity to experience the American prep school route so many high profile Canadian athletes have decided to take without having to abandon home has made the NPSAA a pioneer in broadening the opportunities for hopeful student athletes. In an effort to extend its reach this season there will be a girls division to give female athletes similar opportunities to showcase their talents against some of the best in the country. As well, there will now be an Grade 10 and under division for the boys to get kids at a younger age group up to speed on the vigorous road to becoming a standout prep school athlete.

Along with the formation of three divisions, the league will now be represented in 10 regions across Canada — Toronto, Brampton, Durham, Orangeville, Waterloo, Oakville, London, Quebec City, Montreal and Kingston — and in the U.S. with an American affiliate, Riverside, from North Carolina.

With so many areas represented the effort to give more kids from across the country a chance to experience the league will cultivate a new culture in regards to basketball at the high school level in Canada.

Part of that new culture will be the leagues partnership with Planet Athlete Inc. which hopes to unveil the first official North American Post Grad Championship. The showcase event to be held in February 2013 in New York City will pit the U.S. post grad programs against the NPSAA. It will be an opportunity for scouts and college coaches from across the continent to witness some of the talent the league has in store. Of course the NPSAA will conduct its own Canadian championship in the month of March where the country’s top teams battle to be named the national champs.

The pre-season rankings will be released October 19th as the season is fast approaching and regular season play will be underway in November. Keep a look out for announcements as the league continues to make big steps in becoming recognized as the finest high school basketball association in the nation.
