The Highview Skyhawks and Capalbo Captains kicked off the 2012 NWBL Championship on Saturday. The Captains, the defending champions, sent Vinny Plateroti to the hill against Casey Hanley of the Skyhawks. Both pitchers were superb during the regular season and carried their teams to the championship. In the first game of this best-of-seven series, the Skyhawks held a powerful Captains offense to just one run en rout to a 4-1 win.

In the top of the first, Casey Hanley drove in Ant Peluso to give Highview an early 1-0 lead. Mike Herrmann's three run homerun put the Hawks up 4-0 in the second.

Plateroti's solo homerun in the bottom of the third was the only offense the Captains would muster up. 

The Skyhawks not only took Game 1, but won their first NWBL Championship game ever. The Skyhawks take a 1-0 series lead. Both pitchers pitched all six innings.
