Casey Hanley had a fantastic season, period. On Thursday, Hanley was named the NWBL East Most Valuable Player. Votes from the NWLA, Commissioner, managers and players showed that the NWBL community respected Hanley and felt he was worthy of such award.
The NWBL MVP award is usually presented to the NWBL player who had the best season at the plate, but also left a lasting mark on his respective team's success. There is no doubt that without Hanley, the Skyhawks would have been no where near 18 wins this season.
Hanley batted .567 with 17 homeruns and 55 RBIs, all among the best in the division. His 26 doubles also ranks among the best in the league. His outstandng offensive presence helped the Skyhawks win many important ballgames.
When he wasn't driving in runs, Hanley was dominant on the mound, earning 13 of his team's 18 victories. His 56 strikesouts led the division and his 2.67 ERA was among the best.
Casey Hanley showed that he can handle the pressure this year, propelling the Skyhawks to their second division title in franchise history, as well as their first franchise appearance in the NWBL Championship.
