NWLA Tournament: Round 3
Date: Oct 17, 2012
In what was one of the most entertaining playoff series in NWBL history, the Captains defeated the Bobcats 12-4 in Game 5 of the West Division Championship Series. Steve Coral, who earned the win for the Captains, homered three times, driving in eight of Capalbo's twelve runs.
The Bobcats got out to an early lead in the first after Charlie Fletcher singled home a run. K.C. Abel's solo blast in the bottom half tied the game at one and Plateroti's RBI single put the Captains up 2-1 after the first inning.
Tom Gaccione's two run blast gave Dowling a 3-2 lead in the second, but Steve Coral smoaked the first of his three homeruns, this one a three-run shot that gave the Captains a 5-3 lead. Another three-run homerun from Coral in the same inning put the Captains ahead 8-3 after two innings.
Abel's RBI single in the third extended Capalbo's lead by one before Coral added a two-run homerun in the third to give the Captains a 11-3 lead.
Mike Palmesino's solo homerun cut Dowling's deficit to eight but Plateroti added a solo blast of his own, brining the game to 12-4 Captains in the fourth.
Each team would put up scoreless frames for the rest of the game as the Capalbo Captains went on to capture their second straight West Division Championship.
The Captains will now meet up with the Highview Skyhawks in the 2012 NWBL Championship, a best-of-seven series.
