Chico native Samson Abernathy returns to Heat for 2017 season

Chico, CA:  The Chico Heat have announced the return of local pitcher and fan favorite, Samson Abernathy to the 2017 summer roster.  Abernathy, from Chico, is currently in his second year at Feather River Community College in Quincy, CA.  Abernathy graduated from Pleasant Valley HS in 2014 and was on the Chico Nuts American Legion Baseball team that competed in the 2014 American Legion World Series in Shelby, NC.  Abernathy played for the Heat in 2016 and was a fan favorite.  Abernathy recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Division 1, University of Pacific in Stockton, CA in 2018.

Summer 2016:  Pitched primarily out of the bullpen, appearing in 14 games, making one start.  Compiled a 1-1 record with a 5.08 ERA … Had 18 strikeouts over 23 innings pitched …

2016: Appeared in five games as a pitcher and position player before being sidelined with a season ending injury …

2015:  Appeared in 22 games for Feather River CC, primarily as a position player … Hit .329 on the year in 44 at-bats, driving in 10 … Had a .386 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage…
