Chico, CA:  The Chico Heat have announced the addition of catcher Gavin Johns from UCLA to the 2017 summer roster.  Johns, from Temecula, CA is in his first year with the Bruins after spending one season with the Yavapai College Roughriders (Prescott, AZ).

Personal: Born in Wildomar, CA. ... parents are Craig and Libby Johns … has one brother, Hayden … uncle, Dick Mills, pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 1970 … cousin, Ryan Mills, drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round in 1998 … decided to attend UCLA because it is a legacy school for academics and athletics … his major is communications.

Yavapai College (2016)
Member of Division I JUCO World Series Championship team … 2016 All-NJCAA Region second team selection … 2016 All-ACCAC second team selection … hit game-winning home run in championship game … hit .351 with 16 home runs, drove in 60 runs and stole 11 bases … ended season with .641 slugging percentage with 19 doubles.

High School
Two-year varsity baseball letter winner at Chaparral High school (Temecula, Calif.) under head coach Brian Brown … Named to Perfect Game Follow List in 2015 … Two-time All-league selection … as a senior hit .354 in 26 games with 13 RBI … as a junior hit .422 in 15 games with 11 RBIs and four doubles.
