QUINCY -- The Quincy Gems had only one baserunner in the first four innings, one hit in the first six innings and one run on Friday night in a 4-1 loss to the DuPage Drones in a Prospect League game at QU Stadium.
The Gems (18-16 overall), the first-half champions in the West Division, are 0-2 in the second half.
Houston Looser was Quincy's first baserunner in the third inning, but with two outs, he failed to re-touch second base on a fly ball out by Chandler Purcell and was called out.
A single by Deion Thompson broke up the no-hit effort by DuPage's Jon Laird.
The Gems didn't have another baserunner until the seventh inning. Jake Walters doubled down the left-field line with one out, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball by Thompson.
Quincy's only other hit came when Trey Mathis singled with two outs.
Starting pitcher Cameron Sanders took the loss and struggled with control again, walking six for the second consecutive game. DuPage took advantage of three of those walks in a three-run second inning.
Colan Borchers pitched well in relief, allowing just one run, no walks and four hits in five innings.
The Gems are hitting .140 (8 for 57) in the first two games of the second half.
