QUINCY -- The Quincy Gems' scoreless streak reached 26 innings on Thursday night as they were shut out for the third consecutive game in a 9-0 loss to the DuPage Drones in a Prospect League game at the Benedictine Sports Complex.
The game was stopped after six innings because of rain.
The Gems are 20-26 overall and 2-13 in the second half. The Gems are hitting .209 as a team in July and averaging 3.1 runs per game.
DuPage jumped on Quincy starter Sam Huser for four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning. The Drones added single runs in the third and fourth innings against reliever Alex Ruxlow.
Quincy's best scoring chances were in the third and sixth inning. Reed Sprinkle was hit by a pitch and Mitch Carriger walked in the third, but Frankie Perrone popped up to second and Joey Polak flew out to right to end the threat.
Perrone walked to lead off the sixth and Trey Mathis singled with one out, but Shea Stine struck out and C.J. Schaeffer flew out to center to end the inning.
Quincy had three singles -- by Mathis, Stine and Michael Nielsen -- and never got a runner to third base.
