The Granite City Lumberjacks could not stop the Peoria Mustangs' Chance Homerin, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-2 win.
Homerin's first goal came 18:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:30 into the second and at 15:58 into the third.Peoria forced Lumberjacks' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Kendall Meyer made 17 stops and Sam Goetsch made eight.
Peoria also got points from Levi Armstrong, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Austin Wisely also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Marshall Gevers, who had two and Nathan Scofield, Jason Hoehn, and Mark Candotti, who each chipped in one.
Granite City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Peoria power plays. The Lumberjacks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Granite City averages 4.3 goals per game. The Lumberjacks kept the Mustangs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Hayton made 40 saves on 42 shots. Granite City's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Lumberjacks average 2.2 goals allowed per game.
Granite City was helped by Dallas Marvin, who registered one goal. Marvin scored 7:43 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Peoria. Jared Sprink picked up the assist. Granite City also got a goal from Mitchell Gwost as well.
Peoria incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Lumberjacks incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
