STEELHAWKS CAN’T GET PAST WHITBY

Date:  Source: Hamilton Steelhawks

Hamilton looked to make it two in a row a night after defeating the Brantford Blast but the Whitby Dunlops made sure that didn’t happen as they took the game 4-1.  Dylan Gilbert scored the loan Hamilton goal while Jeremy Currie made 32 saves on the night, taking the loss.  With just four games remaining in the regular season for the Steelhawks, they sit just one point behind the Dundas Real McCoys in the standings for the final ACH playoff spot.

The Steelhawks and Dunlops played an even opening period with chances both ways.  Hamilton’s best chance came early in the period when Kevin Rebelo was sent in on a breakaway but denied.  The Steelhawks also had a pair of power play chances but we unable to get one past the netminder.  Whitby would open the scoring with a minute and 49 seconds left in the period on a wrap around and then added another 70 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead to the dressing room.

The Dunlops would add to their lead in the second, scoring twice.  Once again Hamilton would get a handful of odd man rushes but were unable to capitalize on them.

The Steelhawks would end the shutout bid of the Dunlops with 2:03 left in regulation when Gilbert scored from Kevin Rebelo and Jamie Williams but that was as close as Hamilton would get.

The Steelhawks returns home for their next game which will be played on Saturday February 11th when they host the Brantford Blast on Royal LePage Night.  Game time at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena that night is 7:30 PM.
