Wildcats end losing streak with thrilling walkoff win over...
Date: Apr 25, 2015
The Wildcats bats were silent again on Monday as the Reading Blue Devils won convincingly 10-2. The Blue Devils also swept the season series against the Wildcats with the first win being the 2-1 victory they captured previously. Michael Whitt started for the Wildcats but lasted only 3 innings while his counterpart, Logan Barron threw a complete game.
Barron was dominant from the start and needed just 89 pitches to take care of the Wildcats. In his seven innings, he allowed just 3 hits and struck out 6 while walking just two batters. The Blue Devils also stole 5 bases on the day while only being caught stealing once. However, they were helped by six errors by the Wildcats.
The first error came on just the 3rd pitch of the day by Whitt. Leadoff hitter Grayson Roberts laid down a bunt that was hit directly to Whitt. However, the senior pitcher dropped the ball, allowing Roberts to reach safely. Roberts would then steal second and come around to score on a single by Jacob Clements.
The errors would pile up as the Devils scored two runs in the second, two more in the third, a single run in the fourth, and four more in the sixth. In Whitt's 3 innings of work, he allowed just one earned run but left the game facing a 5-0 deficit.
The two runs the Wildcats scored came in the sixth inning when Luke Steimle drove in Adam Schwegman when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Michael Whitt would score in the next at bat on a walk but that would be it for the Wildcats. With the loss, the Wildcats dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
