Six-run ninth leafs Leafs

KITCHENER – The Toronto Maple Leafs scored six runs in the ninth inning for a 7-5 win over the Kitchener Panthers Friday night.

Damon Topolie went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run for the Leafs. Daniel Szpik had a pair of hits, an RBI and a run, Tyler Hardie drove in a pair of runs and scored once, Connor Lewis had two hits and an RBI, and Jonathan Solazzo and Adam Odd each drove in a run and scored once.

Zac Sloan (2-3) picked up the win, throwing four scoreless innings with four hits and three strikeouts. Solazzo earned his first save, allowing an unearned run on a hit with a walk. Trevor Caughey started and allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Yulexis De La Rosa drove in three and scored twice for the Panthers. Mike Gordner and Zarley Cina each had a pair of hits, Tanner Nivins had three hits and scored once, Yorbis Borroto had an RBI, and Justin Interisano scored twice.

Matt Vickers (1-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits in two-thirds of an inning. He also walked one. Sean Ratcliffe started and gave up a run on four hits over five innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
