XENIA SCOUTS  8  HAMILTON JOES  8  -  Scouts win in Sudden Death

GRADY’S FIELD - The Xenia Scouts benefited again from some late innings magic defeating the Hamilton Joes in sudden death to stay atop of the GLSCL South Division standings.

 

The Scouts (12-8) won two straight games in come-from-behind fashion. After winning on a walk off Saturday night its was Xenia bullpen carrying the Scouts across the finish line to victory.

 

Luke Holcomb (Iowa Lakes CC) came in to pitch the sudden death 11th inning. Hamilton advances the automatic runner Mark Iozzo (Miami University) to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Iozzo advanced to third base on the second out of the inning which was a ground out to shortstop. Holcomb won the next matchup striking out Cody Miller (Lake Erie College) for the game’s final out stranding the winning run at third base securing the Scouts victory.

 

Manny Soto (Westmont College) pitched five shutout innings out of the Scouts bullpen. Soto, who did not factor into the decision, struck out four batters while only giving up two hits and one walk.

 

The Scouts tied the game 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Johnathan Jackson (Harding University) scored on an RBI-single by Ayden Alsobrooks (East Mississippi transfer). Alsobrooks finished the game going 3-for-6 with a triple and two RBIs.

 

Jackson Wang (Wabash Valley College) was a bright spot offensively for the Joes going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and tow stolen bases.

 

Xenia takes the series after being blown out by the Joes on Friday night. The Scouts now lead the Joes (10-10) by two full games in the GLSCL South Division standings.

 

The Scouts will travel to Athens taking on Southern Ohio Copperheads on Tuesday. The Joes host the Grand Lake Mariners at Foundation Field.

 

 

LIMA LOCOS  9  MICHIGAN MONARCHS  5  -  FINAL

HILLSDALE COLLEGE - The Lima Locos completed a sweep of the weekend series against the Michigan Monarchs with a 9-5 victory at Hillsdale College.

 

The Locos now boast the GLSCL’s best record at 14-6. Lima is now three games ahead of the second place Flag City Sluggers.

 

The Monarchs (11-10) fell out of second place in the North Division standings after the weekend set.

 

The Locos make the trip to Muskegon starting a three-game series against the Clippers. The Monarchs take at home hosting the Flag City Sluggers on Tuesday night.

 

 

FLAG CITY SLUGGERS  19  SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS  4  -  FINAL/7 Innings 

MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Flag City Sluggers explode to an early 15-0 lead on the way to a 19-4 run-rule victory at home over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.

 

Flag City (10-9) moved into second place in the GLSCL North Division standings with the victory. This is an impressive feat after staring the season 0-6.

 

Chris Franks (Ashland University) got the scoring started when he was forced in from third base on a bases loaded walk issued to Tanner Powell (Loyola University commit). With the bases still loaded, Caleb Smith (Three Rivers CC) delivered a two-run single. That was followed by Powell coming around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Stechschulte (Ohio Northern).

 

Harrison Engskov (Arkansas State transfer) launched a three-run homer as part of a four-run inning in the second. The Sluggers put seven more on the board in the third inning cruising to the victory.

 

Engskov was 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBI’s and three runs scored. Brayden Curlis (Bowling Green State) scored four runs and Franks stole three bases.

 

Tylan Graves (Southwest Tennessee CC) went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Copperheads. Alex Taylor (Ohio University) came through with a two-run single in the sixth inning helping Southern Ohio avoid being shut out when they scored four runs in the sixth inning.

 

Flag City makes the trip to Hillsdale taking on the Michigan Monarchs, the team they just bumped from the second place spot in the standings.

 

The Copperheads will try to get right on Tuesday hosting South Division’s first place team the Xenia Scouts.

 

 

GRAND LAKE MARINERS  4  MUSKEGON CLIPPERS  3 -  FINAL  

MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners chalk up a series victory with a 4-3 win over the visiting Muskegon Clippers on Sunday in Celina.

 

The Mariners (8-12) scored two runs each in fifth and sixth innings overcoming an early deficit. 

 

Braden Graves (Chattanooga State Tech) got Muskegon on the board first when he hit double to centerfield in the second inning. Jackson Isaacs (Kalamazoo College) raced home from second base giving the Clippers a 1-0 lead.

 

The Clippers (8-13) struck again in the fifth inning when Isaacs pulled a single to right field driving in both Jack Bakus (Lansing CC) and Casey Barnes (Chattanooga State Tech) extending the lead to 3-0.

 

The Mariners in the bottom of the fifth scored two runs on hits by three consecutive batters with two outs. Jacob Loving (Palomar College) reached on an infield single. Loving scored from first base on a double by Aaron Klubeck (Palomar College). Sammy Besztery (University of Rochester) followed by driving in Klubeck on an RBI-single of his own.

 

Grand Lake took the lead in the sixth scoring two more runs. Sam Lapping (Whitman College) reached base when he was hit by a pitch. Lapping scored the tying run on a triple by Ty O’Brien (University of Toledo). O’Brien scored the go ahead run when Isaac Sobieszczyk (Bradley University) launched a sacrifice fly to first field.

 

Mariners relief pitcher Ryker Hughes (University of Indianapolis) made the lead stand up pitching four shutout innings to close it out. Hughes earned his first victory of the season giving up just three hits and one walk while registering three strikeouts.

 

Grand Lake improves its record on the season to 4-0 in one-run games meaning half of its wins on the season have been decided by just one run.

 

The Mariners travel to Foundation Field Tuesday taking on the Hamilton Joes. The Clippers return home facing the first place Lima Locos.
