LIMA LOCOS  16  MICHIGAN MONARCHS  4  -  FINAL/8 Innings

SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos extend its slight lead in the GLSCL North Division with a convincing 16-4 victory in eight innings over the Michigan Monarchs.

 

It’s the second consecutive run-rule victory in the last two games extending its lead in the standings over the second place Monarchs to one a and a half games.

 

Lima (12-6) walked it off in the bottom of the eighth inning with a three run homer off the bat of Braydon Kersey (Mercer University). Keresy, who hit his league leading sixth home run, finished the night going 3-for-6 with four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Kersey also leads the GLSCL with 21 RBIs.

 

The game was a close one in the early going with the game tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. 

 

The Locos scored three runs without the benefit of a hit during the inning taking a 7-4 lead.

 

Lima then scored five in the seventh and four more in the eighth cutting the night short at Simmons Field.

 

Five Locos batters enjoyed multi-hit performances. Charlie Vercruysse (Purdue University commit) joined Kersey with three hits. Reese Borho (Abilene Christian), Cole Crafton (University of Louisville) and Nathan Book (Troy University) making season debut all recorded two hits. One of Crafton’s hits was his third home run of the season.

 

The Monarchs (11-8) offensive produced six hits with Kegan Knupp (Eastern Michigan) accounting for two of them with a pair of singles. 

 

The middle game of the series shifts to Hillsdale College on Saturday night. First pitch is schedule for 7:05pm at Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium and TFO Partners Field.

 

 

HAMILTON JOES  11  XENIA SCOUTS  2  -  FINAL

FOUNDATION FIELD - In another battle for first place the Hamilton Joes took down the higher ranked Xenia Scouts 11-2 on Friday night at Foundation Field.

 

The Joes (10-9) victory narrows the gap between the two team in the GLCSL South Division standings. The Scouts (10-8) now grasp to a half game lead after the series opener.

 

Hamilton needed just five hits to score its 11 runs thanks thanks to 11 walks issued by the Xenia pitching staff.

 

Joes second basemen Miguel Correa (Central Michigan) drove in three RBI’s without recording a hit. 

 

Hamilton created havoc on the base paths stealing nine bases. Aidyn Coffey (Stony Brook University), who also scored three runs, swiped four bags. Christopher Roa (Miami University) also scored three runs while claiming two stolen bases.

 

Michael Bilo (George Mason) gave the Joes another strong pitching performance on the mound. Bilo threw six shutout inning scattering four hits while giving up just one walk and striking out three batters. The righty from Mason, Ohio lowered his ERA to 0.87 on the season and now is tied for most wins (3) in the GLSCL.

 

Caleb Webster (Trevecca Nazarene) went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Scouts. Andrew Sharp (Central Washington) claimed both of the team’s RBIs on a two-run homer in the seventh inning.

 

The series moves to the Athletes in Action Sports Complex on Saturday night. First pitch for the middle game of the series is scheduled for 7:05pm on Grady’s Field at Browne Stadium.

 

 

MUSKEGON CLIPPERS  8  GRAND LAKE MARINERS  1 -  FINAL  

MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers extended its winning streak to three games with an 8-1 victory on the road over the Grand Lake Mariners.

 

The Clippers (8-11) have gotten off the mat after a disastrous 1-8 start to the season. Since then Muskegon has improved with a record of 7-4 winning two series during this current stretch.

 

On Friday, its was strong pitching and some timely hitting that was the winning formula for the Clippers.

 

Joseph Chrapliwy (Purdue Fort Wayne) went five and 2/3 innings as the starter giving up just one unearned run. Chrapliwy surrendered just four hits and struck out five batters.

 

Connor Kelly (Northwood University) bridged the gap with two and 1/3 innings of relief giving up just one hit and two walks. Blake Gedrich (Western Illinois transfer) finished off the Mariners striking out Brandon Lang (Southwestern University) for the game’s final out.

 

The Mariners (6-12) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jake Lopez (University of Scranton transfer) scored on an RBI-single by Sam Lapping (Whitman College).

 

Muskegon tied the game 1-1 with an RBI-single Cole Leclair (Texas A&M Texarkana). The Clippers took the lead later in the inning Jackson Isaacs (Kalamazoo  College) scored on a sacrifice fly by Casey Joppie (Saginaw Valley State). A bases loaded walk to Ashten Wong (Loyola Marymount transfer) forced home Braden Graves (Chattanooga State Tech).

 

The Clippers scored three in the eight and two in the ninth salting away the victory.

 

The series continues in Celina on Saturday night with second game of the series taking place at Montgomery Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.

 

 

FLAG CITY SLUGGERS  12  SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS  1  -  FINAL/7 Innings 

BOB WREN STADIUM - The Flag City Sluggers made its first trip to Athens a successful one with a 12-1 run-rule victory over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.

 

The Sluggers (9-9) are another team that got off to a tough start and has now figured things out. Flag City has gone 9-3 after getting off to an 0-6 start.

 

The Sluggers offense was powered by 14 hits but the pitching is what many people were talking about after this win.

 

Cameron Baker (Lincoln Trail), who has been a two-way player this summer, earned his first victory on the mound. Baker pitched three shutout innings giving up just three inning.

 

Jacob Brandon (Southwest Tennessee CC) was the first Flag City reliever coming out of the bullpen tossing two hitless innings. Talmadge Davis (Southwest Mississippi Junior College) pitched the final two innings giving the staff’s only run allowed in the sixth inning.

 

Flag City scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning putting the game in run-rule territory.

 

Matt Gardner (Little Rock) was one of the offensive heroes at the plate for the Sluggers. Gardner went 3-for-3 with three runs scored driving in two RBI’s and stealing a base.

 

Will Lafferty (Marshall  University) also provided a three-hit performance. Lafferty added two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases to his ledger.

 

The Copperheads (8-11) scored it only run in the sixth inning thanks to Billy Adams (Tiffin University). Adams singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch.

 

The series continues at Bob Wren Stadium with first pitch on Saturday night scheduled for 7:05pm.
