Breakers Set HCBL Single Game Run Record in Game 2 of Doubleheader vs. Sag Harbor

The Southampton Breakers made HCBL history in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Sag Harbor Whalers on Sunday at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor. The Breakers defeated the Whalers in Game 2 by a final score of 24-4.

The Breakers also made HCBL history by scoring at least ten runs in two innings in a game. It's the first time that has ever happened in the HCBL. The Breakers scored ten runs in the first and second innings.

The Breakers' 24 runs in Game 2 broke the previous team and league record of 22. The Breakers originally set the record on June 28, 2017, against the Whalers. It was equaled two more times, first in 2019 by the Westhampton Aviators against the North Fork Ospreys and again last season by the North Fork Ospreys against the South Shore Clippers.

Several Breakers stood out in the Game 2 boxscore, among them was Collin Quintano (Villanova), who had two home runs and five RBI. Quintano, the Pepsi Player of the Week for Week 2, currently leads the league in home runs (6) and RBI (24).

Nick Slogik (Rowan College at Gloucester) had his third home run of the season for the Breakers in the first inning and finished the day batting 3-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored. Jimmy Ernst (LIU) was the third Breakers player with five RBI, going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored.

Drew Sliwkowski (UMass) pitched four innings, only allowing two hits for the Breakers as he earned his second win of the season.

The Whalers earlier took Game 1 on a walk-off RBI single from Tyler Sirchia (Dartmouth) to win by a final score of 4-3.

Sag Harbor took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring runs on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Ethan Righter (Hamilton).

The Breakers cut the score to 2-1 on a solo shot by Brett Walmsley (Delaware) in the top of the third. Sag Harbor would get the two-run lead back in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk to Jaxon Beisweinger (Bucknell).

Southampton would get a run in the fourth on a wild pitch and then tie the score at 3-3 in the fifth on an RBI single from Patrick Gozdan (West Chester).

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the eighth when Sirchia hit the walk-off single, giving the Whalers the Game 1 victory.

Will Darrell (Vassar), last season’s HCBL Pitcher of the Year, pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the Whalers to earn his first win of the 2025 season.
