Ospreys and Aviators Split Sunday Doubleheader at Aviator ...
Date: Jun 29, 2025
For the second time in eight days, the Sag Harbor Whalers pitched a no-hitter. Everett Garber (Bucknell), Declan Semler (Stetson), and Ethan Righter (Hamilton) combined for a no-hitter in the Whalers' 4-0 win over the Westhampton Aviators on Friday.
Garber went the first five innings for Sag Harbor, striking out 12 Westhampton batters while only allowing one walk. The Whalers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk to Jake Walman (Seton Hall) and a sacrifice fly from Derek Desmarais (Tufts). Walman added to the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single that made it 4-0.
Garber turned things over to the bullpen to Semler, but Semler ran into trouble when he walked the first two Westhampton batters in the sixth. The Whalers then turned to Righter to get out of the jam. Despite loading the bases on the first batter he faced, Righter would work out of it to keep the no-hit bid alive for the Whalers.
Righter would retire the Aviators 1-2-3 in the seventh to give the Whalers their second no-hitter of the season and fifth in franchise history. Trey Zaffiro (Lafayette) pitched the Whalers’ first no-hitter of the 2025 season on June 19th against the Shelter Island Bucks in the Montauk Classic.
It is the eleventh no-hitter in HCBL history and the third combined no-hitter in HCBL history. Brendan Butler (Fairleigh Dickinson), Anthony Gatto (UMBC), and John Maloney (High Point) had the first combined no-hitter in the HCBL for the Center Moriches Battlecats against Shelter Island in 2012.
Henry Escandon (Catholic U), Connor Schlidt (St. Joseph’s-Long Island), and Jacob Pedersen (Adelphi) combined for the most recent one for the Breakers against the Bucks in 2023.
