The Southern Ohio Copperheads returned home after a week-long away stretch on Friday, June 28th to face off against the Flag City Sluggers.
Starting pitcher Luke Bryant opened strong, striking out three batters in the first three innings and holding the Sluggers to just one run. The Copperheads managed to get runners on base in the first and second innings but couldn't bring them home.
After a one-hour rain delay after the third. The Sluggers came out swinging in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs off a few singles and some errors. Thomas Adair stepped in but struggled to contain the Sluggers’ momentum.
Not much to report when the Copperheads were up to bad with Billy Adams providing the team’s only run in the sixth inning. Occhipinti and Endo each contributed singles, but the team left multiple runners on base.
By the top of the seventh, the Sluggers had added 3 more runs, extending their lead to 12–1. Will Heisler stepped in to pitch late in the game but couldn’t prevent the Sluggers from enforcing the mercy rule.
The Copperheads will face off against the Sluggers again on Saturday June 28th at Bob Wren!
