Cheads Fall to Run Rule

Date:  Source: Southern Ohio Copperheads

Resuming a game from June 28th, the Copperheads faced the Sluggers starting tonight’s game at 5-0. Things kicked off with Frankie Clark getting hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Zach Hartman and another by Brendan Willadsen, and despite some good contact from Ronnie Rowley and Jack Ferguson, the inning ended with just one run.

John Gerfen took the mound and held things steady during the first few innings. Nate Silvas got hit by a pitch during the bottom of the 2nd and then stole second and third but was left stranded on the bases.

During the 3rd inning the Sluggers turned up the heat by adding three more runs to their lead. The Copperheads fought back with the same energy and scored four runs keeping the game close. Jack Ferguson scored a home run keeping the fans on their toes. Ronnie Rowley and Mason Wagner both pitched in doubles.

Momentum didn’t last long, though. The Sluggers put up 5 more runs in the top of the 4th to stretch their lead to 13–6. Despite getting a few players on the bases no one was able to score.

Thomas Adair came in to pitch in the 5th and kept things solid, but more damage came in the 6th and 7th as the Sluggers added five more runs.

Frankie Clark led off the 6th with a double and later came around to score, making it 16–7, but unfortunately this was the last score of the night. Two more Sluggers runs in the 7th made the game end early due to the run rule, leaving the final score 18-7.

Despite the loss, the ballpark was filled with fans for the last day of the season. Can’t wait to see everyone back at Bob Wren next season!
