XENIA SCOUTS 16 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 6 - FINAL/7 Innings
GRADY’S FIELD - The Xenia Scouts ambushed the red hot Flag City Sluggers early cruising to a 16-6 run-rule victory on Grady’s Field at Brown Stadium in Xenia.
The Scouts win keep them atop of the GLSCL South Division standings with a 9-6 record just half a game ahead of the second place Hamilton Joes.
After scoring a run in the first inning, Xenia added five more runs in the second inning extending its lead to 6-0.
Catcher Will Lawrence (Samford University) delivered the big blow with towering grand slam into the trees beyond the left field fence.
The Sluggers (7-8) cut that deficit in half putting a three-spot on the board in the top of the third inning. Chris Franks (Ashland University) crossed the pay station first on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brayden Curlis (Bowling Green State). Cameron Baker (Lincoln Trail) added a two-run double plating Trey Gardner (Three Rivers CC) and Tanner Powell (Loyola University commit).
The Scouts brushed that threat off answering with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Xenia only needed three hits during the rally but they all produced runs. Noah Manasan (Arizona Christian University commit) started with an RBI-double followed by an RBI-single for Ayden Alsobrooks (East Mississippi College). Troy Lynch (University of Minnesota Duluth) later cleared the bases with a three-run double.
The team’s traded runs until the bottom of the seventh innings when Xenia secured the 10-run mercy rule advantage. Manasan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing home Johnathan Jackson (Harding University) from the third base walking it off the Scouts.
Lynch, Alsobrooks and Gus Gandy (Samford University) each had three hits for the Scouts. Lawrence (five) and Lawrence (four) combined for nine RBIs. The Xenia base running attacked attributed for six stolen bases.
Franks and Bret Reed (Lawrence University) each provided a pair of hits for the Sluggers.
The series continues with the middle game on Wednesday at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
HAMILTON JOES 5 MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 2 - FINAL
MARSH FIELD - The Hamilton Joes take the first game of a road series “north of the border” beating the Muskegon Clippers 5-2 at Marsh Field.
The win keeps Hamilton (5-7) on pace in the GLSCL South Division standings just a half game behind the first place Xenia Scouts.
Miguel Correa (Central Michigan commit) broke up a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with a single to left field. Jaxson Christ (Lake Erie College) crossed the plate giving the Joes the lead.
The Joes added single runs in the each of the the eighth and ninth innings providing the cushion it needed for the victory.
Mark Nowak (Northern Kentucky) began a two-rally in the eighth inning reaching on an infield single. Nowak stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Clippers catcher. He scored on an RBI-single by Christopher Roa (Miami University).
Jackson Wang (Wabash Valley College) scored an additional insurance run on a run-scoring double by Jordan Malott (Indiana Tech).
The Clippers scored its two runs tying the score 2-2 back in the third inning. Back-to-back infield singles by Jake Bakus (Lansing CC) and Preston Leon (University of Minnesota) scored both of the markers.
Mark Iozzo (Miami University) came in out for the Hamilton bullpen shutting down the Clippers offense. Iozzo pitched five and 2/3 shutout innings earning his first victory of the season. Iozzo struck out six batters scattering just two hits without surrendering a walk.
Carson Brower (Bellarmine University) pitched the final innings and a 1/3 closing it out and securing his first save of the summer.
The two teams will finish the three-game series with a double header on Wednesday afternoon at Marsh Field. The action gets started in Muskegon at 4:05pm.
LIMA LOCOS 5 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 1 - FINAL
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos moved into first place of the GLSCL North Division standings with a 5-1 victory over the Grand Lake Mariners.
The beginning of the series renews the longest standing rivalry in the GLSCL dating back to 1990.
Lima starter Jake Michalak (Ohio State) kept the Mariners offense off balance going seven innings improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Michalak was not overpowering but very efficient giving up just one run while scattering seven hits.
The Locos (9-6) struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Luke Mottola (Central Florida) came to the plate with the bases loaded grounding into a fielder’s choice allowing Grant McGuire (Winthrop University) to score from third base.
Hayden Mains (Morehead State) scored on a delayed double steal when Mottola swiped second with Mains on third base. Mains strolled home on the throw down to second making it 2-0 Locos.
Grand Lake (6-9) answered with two outs in the fourth when the Mariners loaded the bases. Chase Alwardt (University of Indianapolis) grounded into a bases loaded fielder’s choice allowing Sammy Besztery (University of Rochester) to score. Aaron Klubeck (Palomar College) was thrown out at home on the play attempting to score a second run ending the inning.
That was all the closer the Mariners would get as two different Lima pitchers stranded eight Grand Lake runners on base despite allowing nine hits.
Brecken Menuet (Louisiana Tech) doubled driving in Payton Ebbing (Kent State) and later scored on an RBI-single by Reese Borho (Abilene Christian).
Lima tacked on another run when Eppling’s sacrifice fly plated Cole Crafton (University of Louisville) from third base.
The series moves to Celina for the middle game on Wednesday with first pitch at Montgomery Field scheduled to take place at 6:35pm.
SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 12 MICHIGAN MONARCHS 6 - FINAL
HILLSDALE COLLEGE - The Southern Ohio Copperheads went on the road opening a three-game series doubling up the Michigan Monarchs 12-6 at Hillsdale College.
The Monarchs (9-7) fell out of first place as a result of the loss and now a half game behind the Lima Locos in the GLSCL North Division race.
The Copperheads even it record to 8-8 on the season and now a game and a half out of first place in the GLSCL South Division standings.
The series continues on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm at Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium and TFO Partners Field.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
