MUSKEGON CLIPPERS @ SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS - DH
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Muskegon Clippers completed three-game series sweep winning both games of a double header in Athens over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
In the opener, Muskegon trailed 3-2 going into the sixth inning. The Clippers batted around scoring four times taking a 6-4 lead.
Ashten Wong (Loyola Marymount) tied the game scoring the on an RBI-single by Connor Kelly (Northwood University). After back-to-back bases loaded walks, Jack Bakus (Lansing CC) capped the rally with an RBI-single driving in Joseph Chrapliwy (Purdue Fort Wayne).
The Copperheads answered with a run in the bottom off the sixth inning. Nathan Koster (Alpena CC) led off the inning with a double advancing to third on a wild pitch. Koster scored when he was driving on a base hit by Jackson Kale (LeTourneau University).
Aidan Pearson (Purdue Fort Wayne) came in from the Muskegon bullpen recording the final two outs in the eighth maintained the Clippers 6-4 lead. Pearson went back out to the mound ninth retiring the Copperheads in order securing the win for the Clippers.
In the nightcap, Muskegon completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory.
Braden Graves (Chattanooga State Tech) went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Clippers with a double and two runs scored. Taylor Head (Chattanooga State Tech) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Aidan Robinson (Northwood University) contributed two singles.
Kelly, who is a two-way player for the Clippers, appeared on the mound in game two. He pitched three shutout winnings in relief retiring all nine batters that he faced registering two strikeouts.
Haruta Endo (Minnesota West CC) accounted for two of the Copperheads five hits in the game. Endo went 2-for-4 with a double, and RBI and a run scored.
Both teams will take Thursday off preparing for a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday night. The Clippers host the Xenia Scouts while the Copperheads travel to Simmons Field taking on the Lima Locos.
FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 9 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 4 - FINAL
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Flag City Sluggers won its fifth consecutive game continuing a remarkable turn around defeating the Grand Lake Mariners 9-4 at Montgomery Field.
The start of the game was delayed two and 24 minutes awaiting a massive storm to get through the Celina area.
Once the game started both teams got off to slow offensive start going scoreless throughout the first three innings.
The Sluggers broke the seal in the fourth inning with an RBI-double by Andrew Stechschulte (Ohio Northern) driving in Tanner Powell (South Arkansas CC).
In the bottom of the fourth, Grand Lake scored twice taking over a 2-1 lead.
The Mariners had runners at second and third when Sage Adams (Purdue Fort Wayne) grounded out to the third basemen allowing Jake Lopez (University of Scranton) to score from third base. After the out was recorded and the run scored, a second runner crossed the plate on a throwing error by Flag City attempting to throw out Salvatore Besztery (University of Rochester) advancing to third. Besztery scored when the errant throw went over the third baseman’s head going down the left field line.
It turned out to be the only lead of the game for the Mariners as Flag City answered with three runs in the fifth inning.
Powell drove in Matt Gardner (Arkansas Little Rock) on a sacrifice fly. Stechschulte struck again with his second RBI-hit driving in Brett Reed (Lawrence University).
The Sluggers scored five more times on the benefit of just one in the top of the sixth inning taking a 9-2 advantage.
Just as the bottom of the sixth inning was about to begin, the game was delayed once again. This time due to lightning spotted in the area. The game did resume after the minimum 30-minute waiting period.
Grand Lake rallied in the ninth scoring a pair of runs. The Mariners loaded the bases when back-to-back batters were each hit by a pitch forcing two runs.
Cameron Baker (Lincoln Trail) came in out of the bullpen for Flag City to stop the bleeding. Baker, who inherited a bases loaded jam, recorded the final two outs ending the game at 12:41am and the giving the Sluggers its fifth consecutive win.
The series shift to Findlay as the Sluggers go for the sweep attempting to even its record on the season to 6-6. The Mariners (4-7) look to avoid that fate was they try to prevent Flag City from winning its first ever home game at Marathon Diamonds.
MICHIGAN MONARCHS 1 XENIA SCOUTS 0 - Suspended/Top of 2nd Inning
GRADY’S FIELD - The Xenia Scouts and Michigan Monarchs were able to get into the top of the second inning before storms rolled through Grady’s Field.
The Monarchs scored a run in the top of the first inning taking a 1-0 lead. The game was suspended in the top of the second inning and will be resumed at the point of interruption on Thursday at 3:05pm in Xenia.
The regularly scheduled game will take place at its regularly schedule time of 7:05pm to wrap up the three-game series.
HAMILTON JOES @ LIMA LOCOS - Postponed
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos versus Hamilton Joes was postponed before it ever got started on Wednesday.
The series will be moved to Foundation Field on Thursday where it will conclude with a double header at 5:05pm.
