Four playoff series over the Thanksgiving weekend have provided clarity for the makeup of this year's Canadian University World Series. Three of the four series required a third game to determine the winner, another indication of the continuing league parity and high level of competition taking shape across the CCBA.
In the Atlantic Conference, Acadia (10-6) defeated St. FX (6-10) in three games dropping the first 3-2 and then responding with 4-0 and 6-3 wins. New Brunswick (10-6) defeated Saint Mary's (6-10) in the only playoff series decided in two straight 8-2 and 4-2.
In the Northern Conference Concordia (7-9) took Carleton (12-4) to a third game before succumbing in the series finale 7-0. In what has become this year's playoff trend, the lower ranked Concordia took the first game 3-2 before losing the second 11-5. The same pattern took shape in the other Northern Conference series as Montréal took game one against defending champion McGill 9-7 before losing a close game 5-4 and finally 14-1 to be relegated to a wild card consolation.
So, the Northern Conference championship will be a rematch from last year as McGill once again hosts Carleton. The Consolation wildcard series will pit Montréal at Concordia for the last seed from the North. In the Atlantic, New Brunswick will host Acadia to determine the conference winner while St. FX will host Saint Mary's for the final seed.
The Canadian University World Series will take place at RCGT Stadium in Ottawa from October 18-21. All games will be live streamed.
