Antagonish, N.S.  (Oct.4.2017)--

The St. Francis Xavier X-men (4-12) came oh so close to tying for 4th place with Acadia (5-11) in the Atlantic Conference and forcing a one-game play-in Antigonish this Friday.

But the baseball gods were not on their side as they dropped the first of a double-header to CCBA Affiliate Holland College 8-5 before winning their last game of the season 2-1.

St. FX made important strides this year according to their Head Coach Dean Marchand. While generally "disappointed" at not making the playoffs, he is "still quite happy with the season."

"We finished 4-12 but could easily have been 12-4." he said.  The  X-men lost a number of one-run games this Fall and look to be on the rise.

This season saw a series of particularly tight races in the Atlantic.  When the dust settled, only 6 games separated 1st from 5th.

According to Marchand "things are looking up."

With the Atlantic Conference standings finalized, the CCBA kicks off its playoff schedule this weekend as teams compete for a birth at the UBaseball National Championships in Fredericton October 19-22.
