Game 1 final score was 7-4 in favor of the Stars. Beaux Bonvillian recorded his second win in a row as he battled through 5 tough innings allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. With the win, Bonvillian improved his record to 2-1 on the year.

The Stars had their bats going tonight as they had 10 hits total with 3 players having 2 hits apiece led by Peak Performance Player of the Game, Crowder College signee, Cameron Tissue. Tissue was 2-3 on the night with two runs and a stolen base. South Dakota State’s Derrick Hackman and Pitt State’s Jamie Mitchell also had 2 hits 1 double and one RBI each. The Stars defense and pitching showed up as there where many great plays by both the outfield and infield. Left fielder and IU Kokomo’s Mason Melton and Maryville’s Cherokee Boynton led the way defensively with numerous diving plays. After Bonvillian, Maryville’s Austin Winter and Drury’s Collin Fraley, who earned his league leading third save, slammed the door finishing off the final two innings not allowing a hit.

The Wild started Christopher Mercier on the mound and held the lead for a solid 4 innings. In the fifth inning, Mercier gave up 3 runs to tie the game and was then relieved by Ecclesia’s Weston Chadwell. Chadwell threw the final two innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. Offensively, the Wild had six hits led by Hutchison Community College’s Crit Williams who was 2-3 on the night.

 

Game two’s tone was set in the first four innings as the Stars offense scored seven of their eight runs and Peak Performance Player of the Game, Pitt State’s Jarret Dotson, no-hit the wild through the first four of his six innings pitched. Dotson allowed only two hits on the night with zero walks and eight strikeouts. Alden Blest followed Dotson to throw the final inning not allowing a hit with two strikeouts. Offensively, the Stars had six players with one hit and at least one RBI a piece.

Mason Dickemann started game two for the Wild. Dickemann allowed seven runs (5 earned) on five hits, five walks, and two strikeouts. University of Evansville’s Zach Reeder followed and threw a solid two inning with two strikeouts. Ben Sellers finished out the game allowing one run on one hit and a walk.

Both teams will face each other again on Thursday and Sunday night to finish off their weekday series with both games starting at 6:30pm.
