Friday nights game featured the first place Route 66 Stars taking on the White River Cobras in a battle that featured the Stars right handed pitcher, Brayden Green against the Cobras righty Justin Foy.

With the Stars home team on the night, the Cobras had a chance to put their bats to work early and that is exactly what they did as the Cobras scored one run on two hits, a walk, and a fielder’s choice scoring Caleb Essick after he had singled to lead off the game. The Stars answered right back in the bottom half of the first inning scoring two runs of their own on a wild pitch scoring Collin Fraley who had reached by fielder’s choice and advanced on a pass ball that moved him over to third. The Stars scored their second run after a walk to both Andrew Morrow and Cameron Tissue brought up shortstop, Brett Daley. Daley hit a ground ball to second which was misplayed allowing Morrow to score from second.

The Stars scored their third run of the game as Collin Fraley drove in Peak Performance Player of the Game, Connor Paulson with a 5-3 putout after Paulson had tripled prior to Fraley’s at bat.

With two outs in the fourth inning, the Cobras hit back-to-back doubles by Blake Lutgen and Addison Adams with the latter scoring Lutgen. Adams scored on an error by the Stars third baseman as Cobras catcher, Eli Wells hit a well-placed ball forcing the third baseman to force his throw. Those two runs tied the game at 3 at brought the Cobras back to life.

The Stars blew the game open in the bottom half of the fifth as they scored six runs to take the lead, 9-3 and scored three more in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score, 12-3.

Justin Foy threw 4.2 innings giving up 9 runs (5 earned), on five hits, five walks, and six strikeouts. Tyler Groves, Logan Wiley, and Jake Lochner finished the final 3.1 innings allowing three more runs on two hits, with four strikeouts. Foy was saddled with the loss falling to 1-1.

Brayden Green picked up his third victory of the summer throwing five strong innings giving up two earned runs on five hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Alden Blest and Logan Thomazin threw the final four innings (two innings each), allowing only one hit and seven strikeouts.

With the win, the Stars improve to 14-4-1 and the Cobras fall to 6-10-2.

Up next for the Stars will be a three-game series against the second place team, Queen City Crush. The Cobras look to get back on track and will take on the Ozark Mountain Wild in a four-game series starting with a double header on Tuesday.
