Stars sweep Crush in Tuesday Night DH

In game one of the twin bill, the Route 66 Stars had lefty Beaux Bonvillian toe ,the rubber and the Queen City Crush countered with right handed pitcher Tom Tewes from Drury University. The game was a closely attested affair with the final score going in the Stars favor, 3-2. Bonvillian improved to 1-0 on the year as he threw five strong innings giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts. Collin Fraley picked up his second save of the year as he closed out the game with a three up three down inning striking out one.

The Stars were led offensively by a trio of hitters. Jamie Mitchell, Collin Fraley, and Andrew Morrow all went 2-3 on the night with Mitchell and Fraley both having an RBI and a run scored.

The Crush were had seven hitters with one hit a piece, with Jackson Berney driving in the lone RBI.


In game two, the Stars had Pittsburg State righty, Jarrett Dotson on the hill, and the Crush started Truman State right handed pitcher, Mason Hatch. The game was not as close as the first one as the Stars rolled out to a 12-run lead after 5 innings. Dotson threw 4 strong innings giving up 4 hits with 0 earned runs, no walks and 4 strikeouts. Max McKee threw 2.2 strong innings giving up 1 earned run and 4 strikeouts.

Again, the Stars were led by Pittsburg State’s Jamie Mitchell (2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI’s, 1 stolen base), Drury’s Collin Fraley (2-3, 2 runs,1 RBI, 2 stolen bases), and Michigan State’s Andrew Morrow (2-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI). Pittsburgh State’s Justin Root got in on the action for the Stars with a pinch hit double with 2 RBI’s.

The Crush were led by Austin Wood (2-4, 2 RBI’s) and Oklahoma Baptist University’s Caleb Stull (2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI).

Thursday night the Stars take on the Crush to finish off the weekday series with the game starting at 6:30pm.
