The affiliated summer collegiate team to the league in the summer of 2018.Fellowship of Christian Athletes is thrilled to announce a partnership with the Show Me Collegiate Baseball League that will bring an FCA affiliated summer collegiate team to the league in the summer of 2018.
The Queen City Crush will be managed and operated by local staff from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Cody Pentecost will serve as the team’s General Manager and will oversee the day to day operations for the Crush. “Collegiate baseball has always been a great passion of mine dating back to when I had the opportunity to play for an FCA collegiate team in college,” Pentecost said. “This is a chance for me to combine my greatest passions: my relationship with Jesus Christ, baseball, and ministering to college athletes and coaches.” Cody Pentecost also serves as FCA’s Greene County Area Representative serving the middle schools, high schools, and college campuses throughout Greene and Lawrence Counties.
As a part of the Show Me Collegiate League the Crush will recruit college baseball players from across the country to come to Springfield and play an MLB style schedule, playing approximately 40 games in the span of two months. “The cool thing about having an FCA collegiate baseball team in Springfield is that these college players are going to be able to gain incredible experience playing against high quality talent and really improving their game on the field. But, we are going to be about way more than just baseball.” Players that play on FCA’s team will be involved in weekly team Bible studies, pre-game chapels, youth camps, and outreach projects serving the Springfield community. Pentecost’s desire is to see the Queen City Crush have heavy involvement in the local churches around the Springfield area and then see those churches come out to support and encourage these college baseball players.
“The players come here as baseball missionaries,” Pentecost said. “They raise support like they’re going on a two-month mission trip to Springfield and the Ozarks. And, like missionaries, we want to see players go back to their schools and start FCA Huddles and Bible studies with their teams because of what they experience here. Every day is a ministry opportunity. It is so much more than playing a baseball game.”
FCA will continue to make announcements throughout the fall including news concerning coaching staff, recruiting, sponsorship opportunities, and schedules. The Queen City Crush website is currently under construction and will be up momentarily.
