Former Merchant taking the BIG 12 by storm

Former Alameda Merchant JR Davis (2013, 2014) is having a great year after transferring from Seminole JC in Oklahoma to Oklahoma State. After being moved into the leadoff spot about 10 games into the season, the junior 2nd baseman has held that spot down and been a spark plug for the #16 ranked Cowboys. He has started 19 of the 20 games he has played at OSU.

Davis is currently 2nd on the team in batting average (.324) and triples (1) and has only struck out 5 times all season (tied for lowest on the team). Recently, he was named BIG 12 Newcomer of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week of March 27-April 3.

In four games against Arkansas and West Virginia, Davis was 6-for-15 (.400) with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBIs. He tallied 13 total bases and an .867 slugging percentage.

Davis' big week was highlighted by hitting for the cycle in Sunday's series finale at West Virginia. In doing so, he became just the 18th player in Big 12 Conference history to achieve the feat and only the third OSU player to do it since the formation of the Big 12 (1997), joining Josh Fields (2003 vs. UT Pan American) and Zach Johnson (2011 vs. Kansas State).

After leading off Sunday's game vs. WVU with a walk, Davis delivered an RBI triple in the third and a leadoff single in the sixth. In the eighth, he hit his first-career home run, a two-run shot, and then in the ninth he recorded an RBI double to complete the cycle.

Davis finished the historic day against the Mountaineers 4-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs and three runs scored.

In a Tuesday contest against Arkansas, Davis helped lead the Cowboys to their fifth win over a ranked opponent this season as he went 2-for-4 in OSU's 5-4 victory over the 15th-ranked Razorbacks. One of those hits was a single to fuel a seventh inning that saw the Pokes take their first lead of the game.

We tried to warn people :-)  #Merk4Life
