Merchants drop game 2 of GFI to Burnaby Bulldogs
Date: Jun 22, 2017
Alameda was starting off its longest road trip of the season - a 15 game stretch that will take the team from Southern California to Canada and then on to Alaska. The Merchants did not get off on the right foot, as their bats went silent against the Catch - the first place team from the Calfornia Collegiate League (CCL).
The Merchants were only able to muster one hit - a single by Moises Lopez (Laney JC) - through the first 7 innings of play. The Merchants played tough defense - as the Catch did not get on the board for the first 5 innings of the game.
The only other hit that the Merchants could muster was a double by Jamison Nieto in the 8th inning, but the Merchants failed to capitalize and could not score. The ended up losing by a score of 5-0.
The Merchants head north to the Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament in Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada. They will be playing against some of the best summer collegiate baseball teams in the northwest and Canada - including the defending NBC World Series Champion Seattle Studs. Stay tuned!!!
