Sbranti returns to Merchants for 2016

Date:  Source: Alameda Merchants

The Merchants have received a commitment from Shea Sbranti (Arizona/Delta JC) for the 2016 summer season.

Sbranti, a native of Oakley, CA will return to the Merchants in 2016 after having played with the Merchants in 2014.  That summer, his season was cut short because he had to report to the University of Arizona early as a true freshman. This was unfortunate for the Merchants, because Sbranti was just starting to get into the swing of things during the summer of 2014. One game before leaving, he went 2 for 4 with a double, run scored and 5 RBI in a 20-4 win over the Sacramento Heat.

While playing at Arizona during the fall of 2014, Sbranti suffered a torn ACL during the latter half of fall baseball. He took a medical redshirt during his first year at UA and did not play summer baseball in 2015. He returned to UA in the fall of 2015, but left at the semester break and is now at San Joaquin Delta JC in Stockton, CA. He will be the starting catcher for Coach Peters this year at Delta – which was ranked by Perfect Game as the #1 JC in the nation most of last year.  Good luck this year Shea!! Glad to have you back in a Merchants uniform!!
