Calgary, Alta – The Calgary Inferno and the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) hosted a street hockey tournament on Sunday, May 15 in support of the growth of women’s and girl’s hockey across the country. Players gathered in Toronto and Calgary to participate in the inaugural year of the Pave the Way Street Hockey Tournament (a Montreal event is scheduled next month).

Calgary’s event was hosted in Silver Springs at Hayley’s rink, named after five-time Olympic medalist, Hayley Wickenheiser. The 2015-16 Clarkson Cup Champions, the Calgary Inferno, played against local street hockey teams and the beautiful spring day offered a chance for the Infero to mingle with fans and take part in some friendly competition. The winning squad, The Eh Team, was granted entry into Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On Street Hockey Tournament.

“It's great to see the support our city and fans have for women in sports,” remarked Inferno's Community Engagement Manager Crystal Hickey. “We're excited to grow the tournament in the years to come.”

A special thanks to the outstanding volunteers who helped make the event possible. The Inferno would also like to thank the sponsors who made the day possible including:
