Date: Oct 3, 2016

Calgary, Alta - After a league victory, winning the Clarkson Cup in March 2016, a few of the Calgary Inferno’s veteran players have announced their retirement.
Jenna Cunningham and Kelsey Webster have shared experiences on the team; both announced their retirement this past summer and have played together since the team’s first season in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) five years ago with Team Alberta, which transitioned into the Calgary Inferno.
Jenna played her 100th game in the CWHL during the 2015-16 season. A grade three teacher in Calgary, she’ll miss competitive hockey, though enjoy the time with her class.
“I have many great memories and experiences from my time with the Inferno,” commented Jenna, a Medicine Hat native. “Definite highlights include playing at the Saddledome for the first time, partnering with the Calgary Flames, winning the Clarkson Cup, and overall, just experiencing the growth of the Inferno franchise from the beginning to its current state.”
Blue liner Kelsey Webster has played hockey for 20 years on a number of teams from minor hockey to university and is thrilled to have experienced playing for the Inferno in the CWHL. Kelsey’s focus during her time away from hockey will be to finish her nursing degree and she is excited to begin her career in Calgary.
“Retiring as a Clarkson Cup Champion is a great feeling,” remarked Kelsey. “I’ll also take with me the many friendships I’ve made over the years and hope to one day give back to the sport that has given me so much.”
“The Calgary Inferno wish Jenna and Kelsey the best in their careers,” commented interim general manager Jeff Stevenson. “The franchise will miss these players on the ice for their dedication and commends them for the work they have done representing the sport and Inferno off the ice, volunteering and giving back to the community.”
