Brandon Caruso had two extra base hits, sparking the Alaska Goldpanners (2-0) to a 2-1 victory over the Matsu Miners (0-2) on Wednesday at Mulcahy Field.

He doubled in the third and fifth innings and singled in the seventh inning.

The Matsu Miners had no answer for Andrew Buehler, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Matsu Miners managed just two hits off of Buehler, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his five innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Matsu Miners' Ryan Hendrix dominated the Alaska Goldpanners' batters, giving up two runs and striking out five.

Joel Belk got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out one, walked five and surrendered two hits.

Hendrix ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
