The Alaska Goldpanners (27-7) and the Anchorage Bucs (25-15) each put runners in scoring position on Monday, but the Alaska Goldpanners capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 2-1 win at Mulcahy Field.
Ryan Clark had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the fifth and eighth innings.
The Anchorage Bucs had no answer for Mike Benson, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Benson gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out six during his six innings of work.
A bright spot for the Anchorage Bucs in the defeat was Bret Marks, who allowed only one run while striking out seven.
Luke Barker got the win, running his season record to 3-1. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered one hit.
Alex Godzak ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
